The History of Ulvön
It all began with a man called Mr Hagman, he owned the Ulvesund Island, nowadays Ulvön. He planned to build houses on the island. The plans didn´t carry out, he just got started building a bridge in the 1920`s. However, the bridge collapsed after a storm.

In early 30`s the Miss Andersson from Ljungskile bought the island. She wanted to have a bath and health resort at Ulvön. Miss Andersson brought the guest to the island rowing from Ljungskile harbour. They they stayed with full board and passed htei time taking healthy saltsea baths on the dust- and carfree island.
The war came and Miss Andersson had to sell here loving island to the well-known company from Nyqvist and Holm (NOHAB) from Trollhättan. This was in December 1941.
The company formed a foundation and gave the island to the workers from the factory. Behind this idea was the founder of SKF and the ball bearing, Sven Wingqvist. Now it was a lovely vacation camp for the workers. They slept in barracks just by the sea and had their meals in the beautiful restaurant on the top of the island. Here was many parties with good food and lots of dancing at the openair dance-floor.

One summers day in 1961, when the floor was recently glossed and the water was turned off because of reparations, the house caught fire. The fire was explosive and the only things saved from the flames was round white foundation and a painting as a reminder of the donation from Sven Wingqvist.

The house was rebuilt and ready in 1963 in the form that it has today. The Ulvö Foundation later on was owned and developped by the trade union Metall who have built what is here today, cottages, apartments and hostel.
The Ulvö Foundation sold the island in 2006-07 to the shipping company Marinwest AB, and nowadays we, Sara and Magnus try to regain old times at Ulvön with lots of fun, good food and music in combination with bath and recreation at the lovely island Ulvön. |
